Inter Club Team Challenge - The County Crowned Champions!

Last Thursday 31st July saw the annual challenge of the “Team Golf” Competition between The Rose Bowl County Golf Club, Alresford and South Winchester Golf Clubs. 

The event is the culmination of a league competition that each club runs throughout the Summer months, with the finalists from each league battling it out for the inter club trophy.  The format for this event a is 9 hole Stableford, full handicap, with each team consisting of 6 players and, where possible, including a Junior, Senior and Lady member. 
Our Club event, (The County), is called “The Barry Searle Competition” – the name being changed to this a few years ago after a club member and very good friend passed away quite suddenly.  The competition is good fun and popular so it seemed fitting to remember Barry in this way.

The three teams met for a 5.30pm tee off at The County.
Play was fairly consistent throughout, with an air of anticipation building up around the 9th green, as scores on the Leader board became extremely close!
The inter club format takes the best four scores from six to determine each team’s total and the winning result.
The average score for the evening was 17 points, although there was an exception to this with Nic Povey from South Winchester coming in with 23 points!

Unbelievably, when the final match scores were entered, all three teams finished with 71 points – a first in the history of the tournament!!   With it being a team event, we then had to look at the 5th highest score to decide the winning team…………….. and I am delighted to say The County pipped Alresford to the post by one point!

It was a very enjoyable evening, concluding with the after match meal and presentation.   Thank you to our guests, Alresford and South Winchester, who were great company and good competitors.
