The 2010 British Blind Sport Primary Club National Knockout Cup Final will take place on the main pitch at The Rose Bowl on Saturday 21 August.

This will be only the second time that the sport’s showpiece has been played on the main square of a test match venue - the other being the 2009 final, which took place at Edgbaston.

The Rose Bowl, home of Hampshire Cricket, has already hosted several One Day Internationals, as well as the 2008 and 2010 domestic Twenty20 Cup Finals Days; the latter just a few days ago. In 2011 it will officially become the UK’s newest test match ground when England faces Sri Lanka there.

The Blind Cricket Cup Final this year will feature London Metro and Sussex Sharks who have both battled through the competition to have a chance of claiming the trophy.

This announcement is key to the continued development of blind cricket, and it has been welcomed as a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of the game by BBS Cricket’s Chairman, David Gavrilovic:

“The Rose Bowl is an excellent ground and is the ideal stage for this match. Our thanks go to Hampshire Cricket Board and Rose Bowl PLC for this fantastic opportunity. Both Sussex Sharks and London Metro have played very well to reach the final and hopefully will provide a terrific match this Saturday.”

Chairman of Hampshire Cricket, Rod Bransgrove said: “We are absolutely delighted to have the Blind Cricket Cup Final here at The Rose Bowl. It is such an important part of Hampshire Cricket’s ethos to encourage people of all backgrounds to get into the sport and a showpiece event such as this is an excellent way to do that.

“I wish both teams the very best of luck for Saturday.”
