Brain Scovell book signing at The Rose Bowl
Brian Scovell's latest book
Local author Brian Scovell is signing copies of his latest book "Brian Lara, cricket's troubled genius" at The Rose Bowl on Wednesday, 25th July. Brian was born at St. Lawrence in the Isle of Wight and worked for forty years with the "Daily Sketch" and "Daily Mail."
This is his 23rd book. He wrote Lara's autobiography aptly entitled "Beating the Field" in 1995 and is uniquely qualified to write the life story of one of the greatest and possibly most controversial batsman of all time. West Indian commentator Tony Cozier said "it's a very fair and fascinating account of of a cricketing genius, with all his ups and downs."
"All About Cricket" said "I take my hat off to Scovell, he has charted a difficult life well but I also take my hat off to Lara. He has been consistently incredible despite his problems and he has entertained us royally. Thank you, Brians."
The prolific Scovell had two books "19-90 Jim Laker" and "The England Football Managers - the Impossible Job" nominated in the Cricket and Football Sections of the British Sports Book Awards earlier in the year, the first person to have done it.
He has interviewed more than fifty leading cricketers including Sir Garfield Sobers, Clive Lloyd, Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Clyde Walcott and Wes Hall. The 85,000 word book costs £18.99, published by NPI. The book is available from the Hampshire Cricket Shop, or contact Andrew Milnes andrewmilnes@rosebowlplc.com.
