Captain's Charity Day 2008

The Rose Bowl County Golf Club held its annual Captain’s Day on Saturday 13th September 2008. A glorious bright day welcomed 41 members and 31 guests to a 9:30am shotgun start Texas Scramble.

Our Club Captain, Andrew Dowland, chose to support Cancer Research UK during his year of office. With a variety of fund raising ideas the day promised to be one of the most successful Captain’s Charity Days in the history of the Golf Club.
With the course at full capacity, 18 teams had fun and competitively battled it out for first place………..but there could only be one winner! It was The Rose Bowl ‘staff’ team who were victorious and came in with a very respectable score of 55.8. Their team included Mark Miller, a member of the ground staff - Kevin Smith, Business Development Manager - David Griffiths, a Hampshire Cricket player and their guest Colin Day.
Second place went to the Club’s ‘Senior’ team of Chris Jones, Peter Symes, Robin Gregory and their guest for the day Gareth Nicols.

Following the golf, all players congregated in the clubhouse for the buffet lunch. Our thanks to Rachel, Sue and Jill for their excellent presentation and service.
Once appetites had been satisfied, the prize giving, auction and raffle took place, with many members and visitors bidding generously.

The day’s events raised a fantastic sum of £1,719.00 and a big thank you goes out to all who participated and made the day so successful.
