Christian Included in Somerset Squad

Dan Christian runs out Ian Blackwell in Sunday's CB40 match against Durham Dynamos

A look ahead to Hampshire's LV= County Championship match against Somerset at Taunton.

Hampshire v Somerset
LV= County Championship Division 1
Monday 9th – Thursday 12th August 2010 (11.00 start)
Taunton

Dan Christian is included in the Hampshire squad to face Somerset at Taunton in the LV= County Championship this week.

The Australian all-rounder, who was initially signed only for t20 has now been registered to play in all forms of the game for his new team, and having made his CB40 bow on Sunday against the Durham Dynamos, he’ll be hoping to make it two debuts in as many days.

The rest of the squad remains the same as that which faced Durham last week, meaning the only question mark remains over the availability of Sean Ervine, who missed Sunday’s game with a slight back niggle.

Hampshire will be desperate for a win having had to settle for two draws in the last two matches due to a defensive performance from Lancashire and a rain-affected match against Durham.

The Opposition:

A result doesn’t seem the most likely of outcomes in this match as Somerset, like Hampshire, go into it on the back of two draws out of their last three Championship games.

Indeed, the return fixture at The Rose Bowl ended with honours even after persistent drizzle and more stubborn batting from both sides meant neither could force the breakthrough.

However, the hosts were booed by a Canterbury crowd for the tactic in last week’s fixture against Kent. Hampshire fans will be hoping that plays on their hosts’ minds.

Hampshire manager, Giles White says; “There’s a lot of teams in a relegation battle and there’s a lot of teams in the fight for the Championship so, as always, it’s nip and tuck, where every point counts. We’ll be very aware of that and we’ll do our very best over the coming month.

“We’ve still got a lot of cricket to play and if we continue to play the type of cricket we’ve been playing – solid, hard-working, tough cricket - then I’m confident that we can give a good account of ourselves.”
