Hampshire England Players Return
Hampshire’s England Learning Disability players have returned following the tri-nations tournament in Australia. Four of Hampshire Cricket Board’s, AQS Homecare sponsored Disability Squad went on the two week tour playing four matches against South Africa and Australia.
The England side, captained by Portsmouth Community batsman Gavin Randall, recorded England’s first ever win in international Learning Disabilities Cricket in their second match against South Africa. Randall was in a positive mood on his return, “It had its ups and downs as every tour does but overall it was a good experience.”
England qualified for the final of the tournament by virtue of the abandonment of their final group match but were found wanting against twice champions Australia. “We have learnt that we are better than South Africa but Australia are still a way ahead” said Randall. The next tri-nations tournament takes place in South Africa in 2011, and England’s sights are firmly set on deposing Australia as world number one.
The England team will now have a break before resuming training and an intensive summer of cricket. “There is still a long way to go and it’ll take a lot of hard work but the next target is South Africa in 2011” said Randall.
