Jimmy Adams celebrates - but will he still be celebrating on the 19th September?

They’ve won the Friends Provident t20 Trophy, broken records and earned international call-ups; now Hampshire’s players will be rewarded for their efforts with a glamorous awards-night ceremony in the brand new Shane Warne suite at The Rose Bowl on Sunday 19th September.
The squad, plus 200 guests, will be greeted with a drinks reception before taking their seats for the glittering ceremony, which will see gongs handed out for:
- Batsman of the Year (voted for by the squad)
- Bowler of the Year (voted for by the squad)
- Players’ Player of the Year (voted for by the squad)
- Young Player of the Year (voted by Hampshire Cricket’s Junior Hawks)
- The Olive Ford Memorial Award for Most Outstanding Academy Player (voted for by a select committee.)
Hot tips for batting recognition include Jimmy Adams, who became the first player ever to have scored more than 600 runs in a twenty20 campaign, eventually finishing as top run-scorer in the competition with 668.
He’s up against the likes of Sean Ervine who registered a massive 237 in a single innings against Somerset right back at the beginning of the year. Michael Carberry must also be in with a shout after scoring six centuries in the Championship alone this season – a performance that’s seen many tipping him for an England recall. Not to mention Neil McKenzie, who won numerous Man of the Match awards for, amongst others, his knock of 50 in the t20 Final and an incredible match-winning innings to secure the team’s first Championship victory of the season against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
In the bowling category, young left-arm spinner Danny Briggs is one of the favourites having topped the table as the leading slow-bowling wicket taker in the Friends Provident t20. However, he’s up against fellow youngster Chris Wood, who performed brilliantly all season, Dominic Cork who lead the team inspirationally for the second half of the season while nicking his fair share of wickets, and Sean Ervine again, who recorded his personal best t20 bowling figures when he finished with 4-12 against Gloucestershire back in June.
But after such an unpredictable season anything could still happen!

The Players' Awards Ceremony: hopefully a more civilised affair than this one!
In addition, guests will also get the chance to find out who the players think is the funniest and the laziest Royal as well as the best all-round sportsman and the one most popular with the ladies! They’ll also hear from them what their personal highlight of the season was, before mingling with the players to ask them some questions of their own.
A few tickets remain for this special occasion, priced at £25 per person including VAT. To book, call 02380 47 2009 or email us by clicking here.
