Hampshire Loan KP to Surrey
Pietersen walks off after his last game for the Royals earlier in the season
Hampshire Cricket have agreed to loan Kevin Pietersen to Surrey for the remainder of the 2010 season.
Hampshire Cricket have agreed to loan Kevin Pietersen to Surrey for the remainder of the 2010 season. The announcement follows news released this evening that Pietersen will be omitted from the England t20 and NatWest Series One Day International squads to face Pakistan.
The loan deal was agreed at the request of the England and Wales Cricket Board [ECB]. In a statement, national selector, Geoff Miller said: “Kevin Pietersen has been omitted from both squads as we feel that his game would be best served by getting as much cricket under his belt as possible before a long and challenging winter.
“The remainder of the county season is an ideal opportunity to do just that and we thank Surrey for enabling Kevin the chance to play and we thank both Surrey and Hampshire for facilitating the loan period for the remainder of the county season.”
Chairman of Hampshire Cricket, Rod Bransgrove added: “Hampshire Cricket was quite happy to respond to ECB’s request to loan Kevin to Surrey at short notice.
“We wish him the very best of luck in the future and a rapid return to the form which we know he capable of.”
