Hampshire sign Kabir Ali
Hampshire Cricket is pleased to announce that fast bowler, Kabir Ali has signed a three year contract with the Club following his release by Worcestershire CCC.
Kabir is regarded as one of the finest seam bowlers in the country and will add greater strength to an attractive Hampshire squad. Since making his debut for Worcestershire in 1999, the 29 year old has taken 429 first class wickets at a remarkable strike rate of 44.8.
Impressive performances during the 2002 season (71 wickets at an average of 25.1) and again in 2003 (67 wickets at an average of 23.26) saw him make both Test and One Day appearances for England, taking 5 Test wickets at an average of 27.2 in his only Test appearance to date, and 20 wickets in 14 One Day Internationals at an average of 34.1.
More recently, Kabir has returned more than 50 wickets for Worcestershire in First Class cricket in both 2007 and 2008 although he was frustrated by injury in 2009 which restricted him to only a handful of appearances.
Kabir Ali said:
‘Hampshire is a fantastic club with great ambition on and off the field and I am really excited about joining them. I have been working very hard on my fitness this winter and feel confident that I can play a major role for the Team this summer.’
1st Team Manager Giles White commented:
'I am thrilled that Kabir has confirmed that he will be joining Hampshire. His domestic record is superb and he will be a huge asset to the side. We hope that he will bring further success to the Club and in doing so reignite his international career.'
Hampshire Chairman, Rod Bransgrove:
‘Kabir is a dangerous and exciting cricketer and I am delighted that he has chosen to re-ignite his career here at Hampshire. Our squad is coming together nicely with a great blend of youth and experience and, with the new developments at The Rose Bowl well under way, this is a fantastic time to be a supporter of Hampshire Cricket.’
