Talented young Hampshire cricket players have been selected to join the West Region Skill Sets.

This winter the ECB made significant changes to their Coaching Structure. A new system has been introduced which establishes a tier structure based on skill sets. A hierarchy of the Elite, Emerging (16 years old upwards) and Regional Skill Sets (13-17 years old) are divided into Batting Skill Sets, Spin Bowling Skill Sets, Pace Bowling Skill Sets and Wicket Keeping Skill Sets.

Each Regional Skill Set comprises twelve players selected for their ability in each of the four Skill Set categories. Players can progress as their skills develop to ultimately have the opportunity to represent their country at the highest level as Elite England players. Hampshire and England player Chris Tremlett was selected at the start of winter as an Elite Pace Bowler.

Michael Carberry is an Emerging Batsmen, Chris Morgan is an Emerging Spin Bowler, Richard Morris an Emerging Pace Bowler, and Michael Bates an Emerging Wicket Keeper.

At a regional level, Hampshire is in the West Region which comprises the following areas: Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Somerset, Wales and Wiltshire. Hampshire has been well represented in the recently announced final West Region Skill Sets.
