Rose Bowl Ready for the Red Rose
James Tomlinson - fresh from performing the "David Beckham" role for the Royals' quarter-final match
A look ahead to Thursday's LV=County Championship match against Lancashire at The Rose Bowl.
Hampshire v Lancashire
LV= County Championship Division 1
Thurs 29th July – Sun 1st August 2010 (11.00 start)
The Rose Bowl
After the heroics of Monday night, when the Royals qualified for twenty20 Finals Day at The Rose Bowl on 14th August, it’s back to the County Championship for Hampshire, who are looking to build on a comfortable win against Kent last time out.
The team go into the match knowing that another commanding victory, along with results going their way elsewhere, could see them move from two places off the bottom of the table to two places off the top, so tightly bunched are the teams in Division 1 at the moment.
James Tomlinson, who performed a self-styled “David Beckham” role on the teams’ journey to Edgbaston on Monday, should return along with fellow paceman, David Balcombe.
With the bat, Michael Carberry will be hoping to build on his impressive 150 scored in the aforementioned Championship game against Kent, while Michael Lumb has put himself back in contention having been in fine touch against the same team in last Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 match.
The Opposition:
Lancashire have been one of the most consistent performers in county cricket this season, performing well in all three formats and earning themselves a t20 knock-out round spot for their troubles.
They currently lie third in the County Championship and are the only team to remain unbeaten in the competition so far this season.
However, of their nine games, they’ve won only three and would have considered themselves lucky to have earned rain-affected draws with Essex and Yorkshire in recent fixtures.
Nevertheless, even without Jimmy Anderson – who is away on International duty – the Red Rose still have a team brimming with quality, including leading run scorer, Steven Croft, leading wicket taker and captain Glen Chapple and new signing, Shivnarine Chanderpaul who impressed on his debut scoring 92 in his first innings.
Hampshire Squad:
4 Jimmy Adams 15 Michael Carberry
6 Michael Lumb
7 Sean Ervine
8 Liam Dawson
12 Dominic Cork
14 James Vince
16 Michael Bates
19 Danny Briggs
21 James Tomlinson
27 Neil McKenzie
84 David Balcombe
