Griff Out to Out-Fox Foxes

Griffiths has taken 19 wickets in his five Championship matches this season

Griffiths has taken 19 wickets in his five Championship matches this season

A look ahead to Tuesday's Clydesdale Bank 40 match against the Leicestershire Foxes at The Rose Bowl.

Hampshire Royals v Leicestershire Foxes
Clydesdale Bank 40
Tuesday 17th August 2010 (16.40 start)
The Rose Bowl

After Saturday’s heroics in the Friends Provident t20 Cup, when the Royals became the first team ever to have won the trophy on home turf, Giles White’s men turn their attention to the other limited-over competition knowing only a victory will keep alive their hopes of doing the double.

However, if they’re to win they’ll have to do it without the player who scored their winning runs only three days ago; antipodean all-rounder, Dan Christian has already headed back home to prepare for a Champions League campaign with South Australia.

The squad will also differ from their last CB40 side as they’ll be without Michael Lumb and Sean Ervine through injury and being rested respectively.

The losses mean a chance for youngsters Liam Dawson, Chris Benham and Benny Howell as well as long-term injury absentee, David Griffiths to come back into the squad. Griff remains one of the county's highest wicket takers in the Championship despite having played less than half of the matches.

The Opposition:

The Foxes go into the game second from bottom of Group C and as good as out of the competition, having lost five of their seven games so far in the tournament.

However, they have shown themselves capable of springing a few surprises, beating Nottinghamshire and Durham.

Players to watch with the bat include James Taylor and Jacques Du Toit, who’ve scored nearly 600 runs between them so far in the competition, while Claude Henderson and Wayne White have taken 8 wickets each at an average of just over 20.
Royals manager, Giles White said; “We’ve got Leicestershire and then we’ve got Scotland at the weekend. Two wins are crucial. If we lose one then that’s the end for us so it’s important that we just keep that winning habit. It’s an important habit to have and it’s a very nice habit to have.

“We’ve been on the other end of it so we know what it’s like to lose and we’ll be doing our utmost to keep this winning trot going. That starts against Leicestershire.”
