Hampshire v Sussex Twenty20 Cup 27th June
Opener Voges top-scored 66 for the Hawks
NINE-WICKET DEFEAT FOR HAMPSHIRE
Adam Voges, Hampshire's new Australian signing, top-scored with an unbeaten 66 in his team's heavy nine-wicket defeat by Sussex in Wednesday's Twenty20 Cup clash under The Rose Bowl floodlights.
Hampshire, who won the toss, totalled 103-2 off their 13 overs and Sussex then strode to victory with three overs to spare. They finished on 108-1.
The match started at 8.30pm after an hour's delay due to rain, but Voges quickly made up for lost time. Opening the innings, he slammed four sixes in a 47-ball knock and shared an unbroken third-wicket stand of 62 in six overs with Chris Benham (10 not out).
Sussex, the new South Group leaders, started their reply badly. Chris Tremlett bowled the dangerous Murray Goodwin for a duck in the first over without a run on the board.
But Sussex skipper Chris Adams (56 not out) then joined Luke Wright (49 not out) in a dominant, unbroken second-wicket partnership of 108 in just 9.2 overs against a six-man Hampshire attack.
HAMPSHIRE 103-2 (13 overs): Voges 66 not out. SUSSEX 108-1 (10 overs): Adams 56 not out, L.Wright 49 not out, Tremlett 1-16.
Sussex won by nine wickets.
* Hampshire stay bottom of the South Group and are without a win after four of their eight qualifying matches.
Their next Twenty20 Cup outing is against Middlesex under The Rose Bowl floodlights on Friday (7.30pm).
