Summary: Hampshire 2nd XI won by 69 runs
Hampshire 2nd XI: 195-2 (20 ovs)
Surrey 2nd XI: 126-5 (20 ovs)
Led by an unbeaten century from opener Jimmy Adams, an experienced Hampshire 2nd XI side strolled to an emphatic 69-run win against Surrey’s 2nd XI.
In a side that featured overseas signing Shahid Afridi, it was Adams 62-ball 107 that made light work of the opposition’s attack on the eve of Hampshire’s first match in this summer’s Friends Life t20 competition against the Somerset Sabres.
After the returning Michael Lumb (19) and James Vince (23) made quick-fire scores, Pakistani all-rounder Afridi’s impressive unbeaten knock of 38 on debut guided the Royals to 195-2 off 20 overs.
With a young and inexperienced batting line-up, Surrey struggled to inject any early impetus into the innings as Riazuddin (2-13) was amongst the wickets alongside Captain Dominic Cork (1-18) and spin-bowler Danny Briggs (1-33).
Despite a sixth-wicket partnership of 37 between Shaun Couzens and Simon King, an experienced mix of death bowling from Afridi (1-22) and Simon Jones (0-21) meant Surrey limped to 126-5.

Purley CC
Summary: Hampshire 2nd XI won by 61 runs
Hampshire 2nd XI: 205-5 (20 ovs)
Surrey 2nd XI: 144-6 (20 ovrs)
A quite majestic 53-ball century from Tim Ravenscroft – which included eight fours and six sixes - made it two wins out of two for Hampshire as they cruised to a 61-run victory over Surrey at Purley CC.
His century was supported by excellent contributions from James Vince (44) and Liam Dawson (39) as Hampshire amassed a huge total of 205-5 off 20 overs.
It was then left to the experienced bowling unit of Dimitri Mascarenhas (3-19), James Tomlinson (1-12) and all-rounder Benny Howell (1-22) to halt any hope of a Surrey reprieve as they ended on 144-6, despite Chris Schofield’s 61 not out.
It was then left to the miserly bowling of Mascarenhas to contain Surrey, with the former England international starting to look back to his best following a long spell out with an Achilles problem.
However, it was Ravenscroft’s ton that proved the difference as the youngster continued to add to his glowing reputation. He was the stalwart in batting partnerships of 79, 37 and 62 with Vince, Mascarenhas and Dawson – with Matthew Spriegel (3-18) the pick of the oppositions attack.
