Summary
Essex Second XI Won By 148 runs
Essex: 265
Hampshire: 117
A depleted Hampshire Second XI suffered their first Trophy loss of the season after Essex registered an unassailable 265 score.
Without Liam Dawson, Chris Wood and David Balcombe - all of whom had been drafted into the senior team - the bowling attack lacked bite and the batsmen struggled.
A 100* from visiting batsman Neil Turk and an impressive 80 off 66 balls from Michael Comber saw Essex gain the advantage.
In a hurry to chase down the deficit, Hampshire's wickets tumbled quickly. A promising opening partnership of 41 from Tom Morton and Michael Bates was followed by two wickets without reply - one of which was a golden duck.
And although hopes were briefly raised by a lower order partnership of 25 from Danny Briggs and James Irvine-Fontescue, the tables had already turned.
The defeat left Hants third in the Second Eleven Trophy Southern Division. They will try to get back to winning ways away to Somerset next week.
