Hants Seconds Get Off To Winning Start
Bates and Howell lead the way in 6 wicket win.
Hampshire Second XI vs. Gloucestershire Second XI
The Rose Bowl
Monday 26 April 2010
A new week brought fresh optimism at the Rose Bowl as Hampshire’s Seconds secured a first victory in the Second XI Trophy with a six wicket win.
After the first XI’s disappointing results against Durham last week and Essex the week before, Tony
Middleton’s men took just over 2½ hours and 47.3 overs to catch Gloucestershire’s total of 239.
Notable performances from openers Benny Howell (who scored 55 off 69 deliveries) and Michael Bates (75 off 105) gave Hampshire an excellent opening partnership of 124.
On the bowling side, leg-spinner, Jamie Miller impressed with 3 wickets, conceding just 21 runs in his 6 overs. The 18 year old is clearly one to watch after a similar 3-wicket haul earlier this season.
The two teams meet again in the Second Eleven Championship from Tuesday (3days), before Hants’ next SET match against Northamptonshire at Milton Keynes on 3 May.
