Younus Khan took four wickets for the first time in his career at the Rose Bowl but Hampshire still clung on for a draw against Yorkshire.

That meant the visitors lost their 100% record and were knocked off the top of Division One of the LV County Championship.

Set a daunting 443 to win, Hampshire were 336 for eight when Shane Warne was dismissed with almost 14 overs remaining, but the stubborn Nic Pothas (76no) batted out time with Stuart Clark.

Younus’ success with his leg-breaks crowned a sensational all-round performance by the Pakistan Test star, who earlier in the game had become the only player in Yorkshire’s history to score a double century and a century in the same match.

Hampshire began the final day on 16 for one and lost nightwatchman, James Bruce, in the third over when his off-stump was flattened by Jason Gillespie.

But James Adams and John Crawley settled in comfortably to add 94 for the third wicket and the next breakthrough did not arrive until shortly before lunch.

Younus became Yorkshire’s eighth bowler and his fourth delivery had Crawley stabbing a catch to Jacques Rudolph at silly mid-off after making 50 from 97 balls with five fours and a six.

Adams found a capable partner in former Yorkshire left-hander Michael Lumb and had moved on to 90 off 188 balls with 14 fours when he was beaten by Younus’ turn and bounce and edged a catch to Anthony McGrath at slip.

Younus, who was proving more of a handful than regular leg-spinner, Adil Rashid, then made it 208 for five as Chris Benham also presented McGrath with a slip catch.

Lumb and Nic Pothas took Hampshire to 263 at tea and in the over after the interval Rashid conceded 18 runs as both batsmen went on the attack.

But Younus returned at the Pavilion End and had Lumb caught off bat and pad by Rudolph at silly point for 57.

There was a first wicket for Rashid when Sean Ervine pushed forward and was caught at silly mid-off but Pothas and Warne took Hampshire into the final hour with a 50 stand in ten overs before Gillespie had his fellow Australian taken at first slip by Rudolph.

Pothas, unbeaten in the first innings with 70, was just as obdurate second time round and both he and Clark remained unperturbed as Yorkshire crowded the bat in the closing overs.

Pothas faced 124 balls for his 76 with 10 fours and Clark hung on for 23 deliveries.
