Hampshire captain to stay until 2014

Hampshire’s new Championship and List A captain, Jimmy Adams has signed an extension at the club which will keep him at The Rose Bowl until the end of the 2014 season.

Adams’ previous deal ran out at the end of the 2013 campaign, but this new deal keeps the batsman at the club for the next three years.

He said; “It’s great to be able to commit myself to the club for another year. I feel we have a great core of players and staff and the future is bright so I'm very excited about the next few years.

“There will be new challenges for all of us, starting with trying to get first division cricket back at The Rose Bowl.”

The 31 year old, from Winchester, was awarded his Hampshire cap in 2006 when he recorded his highest first-class score, 262* at Trent Bridge.

He played in Hampshire’s trophy winning sides in 2009 and 2010; his teammates voting him their Players' Player of the Year both seasons. In 2010, particularly, Jimmy had a phenomenal season scoring 1,351 first class runs to which he added a record 668 in the Twenty20 and 496 in the 40 over game.

He was rewarded with selection for the England Performance Squad to Australia in late 2010 and the England Lions’ tour of the Caribbean in early 2011.

At the end of the 2011 season it was announced that Adams would be Hampshire's new captain, taking over from Dominic Cork.

Hampshire manager, Giles White said; “As captain and player Jimmy has a big part to play in Hampshire's future. He continues to push himself and develop his game through good honest hard work and we look forward to seeing what he can achieve in the coming seasons.”
