Lumb Makes Provisional England Squad
Lumb makes 50 for Hampshire
Lumb, Mascarenhas and Pietersen included
Following a series of good performances with the England Lions, Michael Lumb will join teammates Dimi Mascarenhas and Kevin Pietersen in England’s Provisional 30 man squad for the ICC World Twenty20. In just over a fortnight he top scored in a Twenty20, made his highest ever 50 over score of 110 and inspired the Lions to victory over the full England side with a plucky 58 not out.
Lumb has reached this stage before, but this time First Team Manager Giles White is confident that he will go further. “Lumby’s place in the squad is well deserved. He has done well for us domestically and has continued his good form with the Lions. I suspect he will now be a serious contender for the final 15.”
Mascarenhas’ inclusion represents a potential return to the England team, having played limited overs cricket for his country last summer but been overlooked for the winter tours.
The squad will be halved by 30th March ready for the tournament to begin in the Caribbean a month later.
