LVCC Hampshire Vs Durham

Onions wicket's seal Durham's points

England seamer Graham Onions continued his rich vein of form as Durham thrashed Hampshire by an innings and 110 runs at the Riverside.

Hampshire resumed on 52-4 but were ripped apart by Onions (6-58) and team-mate Callum Thorp (2-21) in just 13 overs on the third day.

Sean Ervine's 22 was the best Hampshire could muster on a disappointing day.

Nick Pothas was out for eight, Dominic Cork went for six, David Griffiths for two and Imran Tahir was out for a duck.

For Durham the victory is a tonic following a disappointing run in the Twenty20 Cup, and marks the county champions' first win of the season in their defence of the trophy.

The victory was paved by a devastating display of bowling in both innings, notably from Onions, who has pushed his claims for inclusion in the Ashes line-up by continuing his four-day form with Durham.

Steve Harmison's return to form was another plus for both Durham and England, the Ashington-born seamer bowling aggressively to record first innings figures of 4-43, which he followed with an economical 2-15 in the second.

Hampshire had Pakistani international Imran Tahir to thank for keeping their hopes alive going into the third day after he took 5-85 as Durham were restricted to 311, not enough to keep them at bay.
