LVCC Hampshire vs Worcestershire Day 3

Veteran seamer Dominic Cork took five wickets as Hampshire wrapped up victory over relegated Worcestershire inside three days at New Road.

Resuming on 102-4 after following on, the home side were bowled out for 227 despite 54 from Alexei Kervezee.

Cork took two of the wickets to fall to finish with 5-14, while leg-spinner Imran Tahir picked up 3-44.

Jimmy Adams then scored the four runs Hampshire required for a win that eases their own relegation worries.

The day started badly for Worcestershire when Surrey-bound wicketkeeper Steve Davies edged Cork to Adams at first slip without adding to his overnight 31.

Moeen Ali (37) then became Cork's fifth victim of the innings, this time Liam Dawson holding on to the catch at second slip, before Kervezee combined with Richard Jones (36) for a seventh-wicket stand of 70.

Kervezee, on his 20th birthday, struck nine fours and reached his half-century by driving Tahir over long off for six as his partnership with Jones came in just 13 overs.

But, the Dutch international fell two balls later when he sliced the same bowler to Dimitri Mascarenhas as mid-off.

Cork was back in action with a slip catch when Jones fell to Tahir and, with Worcestershire still one run behind, Matt Mason top edged David Griffiths to wicketkeeper Nic Pothas.

Chris Whelan (21 not out) made sure that the visitors had to bat again, but when Tahir dismissed last man Jack Shantry to finish with a match haul of 7-62, Hampshire's victory was a mere formality.
