The Rose Bowl Nursery Ground
Summary: Hampshire 2nd XI won by two wickets
Sussex 2nd XI: 181-3 (20 ovs)
Hampshire 2nd XI: 182-8 (19.5 ovs)
A quick fire 44 from Chris Wood and an unbeaten half-century from all-rounder Benny Howell ensured Hampshire chased down a victory target of 182 to defeat Sussex by two wickets at Canterbury.
Having won the toss, the hosts batted first and had Ben Brown to thank following his 54-ball 89 which held the hosts innings together.
And facing an experienced Hampshire bowling attack, boasting pacemen of international ilk suchas South African Friedel de Wet and Kabir Ali – it was youngster Wood (1-31) and pick of the bowlers, Hamza Riazuddin (2-24) who took the only wickets as Sussex posted 181-3.
In reply, Dimitri Mascarenhas (22) opened Hampshire’s innings with the in-form Tim Ravenscroft (35) and they shared a 47-run stand before Kirk Wernars (2-18) and the expensive Amjad Khan (1-46) broke into the middle-order.
However, that only served to bring Wood to the crease and he added to his growing reputation with his well-made knock helping to steer the game in Hampshire’s direction. But it was Howell’s fantastic 53* off 31 balls in a 76-run 6th wicket stand with Wood that carried Hampshire over the finish line in style.

Sussex 2nd XI: 178-5 (20 ovs)
Hampshire 2nd XI: 172-7 (20 ovs)
Sussex avenged their early afternoon defeat to Hampshire and condemned The Rose Bowl club to a six run loss – thanks largely to Kirk Wernars powerful knock of 81 not out.
For the second time, Sussex won the toss and elected to bat first and it was Ben Brown’s contribution again (46 off 27) which provided the backbone to the innings before Wernars took charge and posted nine fours and a six – taking Sussex to 178-5.
But on a good batting track, Hampshire’s bowlers more than held their own throughout. Seamer David Balcombe (2-18) performed well alongside spin duo Liam Dawson (1-25) and Johann Myburgh (1-24) who tidied things up in tandem at both ends.
Chasing again for victory, Hampshire looked on course to eclipse Sussex’s total as Adam Rouse’s 43 was supplemented by a 65-run partnership between Dawson (48) and Hamza Riazuddin (29).
That had looked to be enough but Naveed Gondal (3-25) came back for a second spell and he took the wickets of Michael Bates (2) and Friedel de Wet (7) to leave Hampshire’s lower middle-order with too much to do as they fell narrowly short.
