Michael Lumb signs IPL contract with Rajasthan Royals
Michael Lumb has signed a contract to play in the 2010 Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals. The third IPL tournament is scheduled to start on 12th March 2010 with the final taking place on 25th April 2010.
As Michael is currently not a full international player, he was signed outside of the main auction, which took place yesterday, for $50,000 (£31,000).
Lumb will join Hampshire’s captain Dimitri Mascarenhas in the Royals ranks, and will also play alongside former Hampshire captain and Australian cricketing legend Shane Warne, who captain’s the franchise.
In 2009 Lumb scored 442 runs in the English domestic Twenty20 competition, including a magnificent 124 not out off 69 balls against Essex at The Rose Bowl. He is currently part of the England Lions squad that will be touring the UAE at the beginning of February, and was selected in the initial 30-man England squad for the 2009 Champions Trophy in South Africa.
Hampshire 1st Team Manager Giles White commented: “This is another exciting opportunity for Michael. To join up with the Rajasthan Royals offers at great chance to develop his T20 skills in a new environment.”
