Razzaq to join Hampshire Royals
Hampshire Cricket is pleased to announce that Abdul Razzaq will be joining the Club for the 2010 Friends Provident t20 competition and play alongside international team-mate Shahid Afridi in the newly named Hampshire Royals side.
Having represented Pakistan in all three formats of the game, Razzaq is arguably most impressive in Twenty20 cricket where his ability with bat and ball helped his country to win the Twenty20 World Cup in 2009. Figures of 3 for 20 against Sri Lanka in the final, set the platform for Pakistan’s run chase as Shahid Afridi struck 54 not out to guide them to victory, and it will be exciting to see the duo team up for Hampshire this summer.
Razzaq boasts one of the top ten averages in the history of Twenty20 Internationals and is therefore amongst the most feared batting specialists at this level of the game. In addition to his international success last year, he captained his hometown side, Lahore Lions, to the final of the RBS Twenty20 Cup in Pakistan. On the way he scored 109 against Quetta Bears, not only the highest score of the competition, but the only century as well. Spells at Surrey, Worcestershire and Middlesex, as well as excelling in this country during last year’s World Cup have shown Razzaq as a proven performer in English conditions.
Hampshire’s First XI Manager Giles White commented:
“We are really pleased that Abdul has joined Hampshire for the Friends Provident t20 campaign. He is a proven match winner and can turn a game with either bat or ball. We are looking forward to his arrival.
Hampshire Chairman Rod Bransgrove said:
“Abdul Razzaq is one of the finest Twenty20 performers in the world. He will be a great asset to the side and adds even greater depth to an already impressive team. We have assembled arguably our strongest ever Twenty20 squad with the clear objective of reaching the 2010 Friends Provident t20 Finals Day here at The Rose Bowl on 14th August.
Abdul Razzaq commented:
“I am looking forward to playing for Hampshire in the Friends Provident t20, I've always enjoyed my cricket in England as it is a home away from home due to the massive following Pakistani players have there, and I will do my utmost to try and help Hampshire win the tournament."
Umran Khan, manager of Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Afridi said:
"I am genuinely looking forward to having these two big game players playing in a Hampshire team that already boasts some very good players, I'm sure there will be some fireworks down at The Rose Bowl this summer."
