Royals Out for Revenge in Battle for South Coast Pride
Danny Briggs is the only Hampshire player to have ever taken 20+ t20 wickets
A look ahead to Sunday's Friends Provident t20 match against the Sussex Sharks at The Rose Bowl.
Hampshire Royals vs. Sussex Sharks
Friends Provident t20
Sunday 18th July 2010 (14:30 start)
The Rose Bowl
The Friends Provident t20 Cup group stages end for these two teams with this huge local derby. The South coast rivals meet with both jostling for position in the top 4 quarter-final qualification places.
A comfortable 9-wicket win for Sussex at Hove earlier in the season will only serve to up the ante as far as the Royals are concerned. That night, Neil McKenzie top scored for Hampshire with a respectable 40, and having had some very good knocks lately, the South African will be looking to lead by example once again.
Giles White also has an aggressive young bowling attack in Danny Briggs and Chris Wood. Briggs (22) is the first Hampshire bowler ever to take 20+ wickets in a t20 season with Wood second highest ever with 17 so far.
Club captain, Dimi Mascarenhas may be available as the only addition to a largely unchanged squad.
The Opposition:
Sussex welcome back skipper Michael Yardy and Luke Wright following their involvement with the England one-day international squad.
Other “ones to watch” will be Matt Prior, who is, by far, the Sharks top run-scorer, having racked up nearly 500 runs so far this season (even though he was out for a duck against the Royals at Hove).
With the ball, Chris Nash and James Kirtley have taken 12 wickets apiece* this season. The former’s figures qualify him as the 7th most valuable t20 bowler in the country.
*all figures excluding Friday's matches
