Somerset Sabres v Hampshire Hawks NatWest Pro40 17th August 2008

Hampshire moved up to third in the NatWest Pro40 Division One, after a five wicket win over Somerset at Taunton.

Hampshire Hawks (187-5) beat Somerset Sabres (197-8) by 5 wickets on D/L Method.

Match Report from BBC Radio Solent's Kris Temple:

Hampshire moved up to third in the Pro 40 Division One, after a five wicket win over Somerset at Taunton.

After Somerset Captain Justin Langer won the toss, an excellent team bowling performance saw Hampshire restrict the home side to 197-8 from their 40 overs.  Billy Taylor was the pick of the Hampshire bowlers, taking 3-23 from seven overs.  David Balcolme and Liam Dawson both chipped in with two wickets a piece, while teenager Hamza Riazuddin took 1-30 from his eight overs.

In reply, Michael Lumb looked disappointed to be given out, caught behind for ten, but a half century partnership between Michael Carberry (29) and Jimmy Adams stabilised set Hampshire on their way, when Carberry fell, Chris Benham (35) joined Adams, and the pair put on 95 for the third wicket to take Hampshire close to victory.  Adams went on to register a career best one day score of 86, and with some late hitting from Liam Dawson (17), Hampshire reached a rain revised target of 187 for the loss of five wickets with an over spare.

Hampshire's next home match is against Somerset in the LV County Championship starting on Tuesday 19th August.  Tickets are available on the gate priced at £15 for Adults, £12 for Seniors/Students and £5 for Juniors (Under 16's)
