The FA Cup and the Royal Marines visit The Rose Bowl
Hampshire Cricket
The Rose Bowl has organised a number of great activities to entertain the crowd at Hampshire’s first home NatWest Pro40 match against Lancashire Lightning on Sunday 3rd August.
Firstly, for all Football fans and especially Pompey fans, we are delighted to have the FA Cup itself, on show at The Rose Bowl. Portsmouth FC Chief Executive, Peter Storrie will be present and Rose Bowl visitors will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with the famous Trophy.
The Rose Bowl welcomes the Royal Marines for the second year running at the Hampshire vs Lancashire NatWest Pro40 match on Sunday 3rd August. After the huge success with the Twenty20 Finals Day when the Royal Marines presented the cup onto the pitch, we have them back for this game in far greater numbers. They are pleased to show you, if the weather holds, the Royal Navy Parachute Display Team, Commando Demonstration Team and 40 Commando Royal Marines.
The Parachute Display Team will drop in on us before the game starts and the Demonstration Team will amaze you with their high level stunts from the pavilion and an unarmed combat display during the interval. Finally 40 Commando Royal Marines have brought a couple of vehicles with weapons and equipment that they have recently used on operations in Afghanistan.
40 Commando has just returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan where they completed an arduous 6 months trying to restore normality in a war torn part of the world. Their levels of endurance and professionalism are exceptionally high and they will be delighted to let you know some of their experiences as well as show you some of the equipment and how it works. They are not shy so please feel free to ask them lots of questions.
Sadly there is a serious side to this and the Royal Marines have suffered a number of casualties in the past two years. The Royal Marines Association is mainly made up of former Royal Marines and they are at the ground too. You will notice them in their blazers, green berets and medals. These veterans are collecting money to support the Royal Marines on operations; both those that are injured and their families. The Association needs to raise over £100,000 per year to achieve this so that the Royal Marines and their families can get either home comforts abroad or the financial and moral support when suffering.
The veterans will be holding the collecting tins and we would ask you to give as generously as you are able.
