The Rose Bowl Masters 2008
The sun was shining - the azaleas in full bloom – an abundance of green keepers gently tending the manicured fairways – greens running at 14 on the stimp meter – all in preparation for the 2008 US Masters………………….. ooops, wrong report. It’s the 2008 Rose Bowl Masters!!!
Although our golf course isn’t quite Augusta, Mike and his team have worked hard to present the course in great condition for the first major of the year.
Twenty seven competitors arrived to battle it out for the “green shirt”.
After the first nine holes, the scoring was very tight. Leonard Blake, (2006 Champion), was lying second, with a front nine score of nett 31. The leader, Ben Lee, was ahead by one. Other players in contention included Elliott Hall, Matt Davies and Steve Higgins.
The tide turned when Jim Cole carded a back nine of nett 6 under par, closely contended by Steve Higgins. A par at the last would have secured third place for Simon Rogers. However, it was not to be and he missed out on count back.
Ben Lee played consistently throughout. The nine hole leader added to his great start by carding a back nine nett 30, finishing with a gross 79, nett 61. He was a true champion, leading from the start and not cracking under pressure. A huge congratulations to Ben, the 2008 Rose Bowl Masters Champion.
Thank you to all those who turned out on the day. We hope you enjoyed the event and feel enthused to join in our next major competition, The Oakwood Singles Trophy, to be held on May 18th.
