Warwickshire 2nd XI v Hampshire 2nd XI at Moseley CC 22nd, 23rd, 24th May.
A battling performance by a disrupted Hampshire weakened by First XI call ups was not quite enough to pull off an unexpected victory against a strong Warwickshire side at Moseley CC. Having had the worst of the conditions when put in by the home side, Tom Burrows made 73* in a Hampshire total of 288 before being called up for 1st XI duty along with Sean Ervine at the end of the first day. Missing two players, Hampshire did well to restrict Warwickshire to 416 on the second day (van Jaarsveld 158, Parker 104 James Manning 3-61, Benny Howell 2-20, David Griffiths 2-93) after they had at one point been 359-3. Reinforced by James Bruce’s arrival from Canterbury, and with coach Giles White forced to make up the numbers, Hampshire struggled to 212 in their second innings; captain Chris Benham making 82. Set just 85 in 34 overs to win Bruce (3-29) and Griffiths (2-38) reduced Warwickshire to 67-6 but home captain Dougie Brown, joined by ex Hampshire young cricketer Michael Barnes, saw Warwickshire eventually to victory by 4 wickets in an enjoyable hard-fought contest .
