Worcestershire v Hampshire NatWest Pro40 13th July

The opening Natwest Pro40 match between the Hampshire Hawks and  Worcestershire Royals has been  abandoned without a ball being bowled on Friday 13th July.

The descision was made on Wednesday 11th July to relocate the floodlit match to the County Ground Derby, as a consequence of the recent flooding from the River Severn at New Road.  Despite the best efforts of ground staff and volunteers the pitch remained unfit at New Road.

The County Ground experienced regular and heavy showers from midday, worsening the condition of the already sodden pitch.  The match was scheduled to start at 4:40pm, however following a final pitch inspection by match umpires Ian Gould and Neil Bainton the match was adandoned at 6:30pm.

The match would have been the first of the NatWest Pro40 competition this season.

The NatWest Pro40 competition comprises seventy three matches played during July, August and September.  The competition finale will take place on Sunday 23rd September.  The Essex Eagles retained their title in 2006.

Hampshire compete in Division One of the competition following promotion success in 2006.  Division One matches will finish on Sunday 16th September.

Hampshire Hawks rivals in Division One:
Essex Eagles, Gloucestershire Gladiators, Lancashire Lightning, Northants Steelbacks, Nottinghamshire Outlaws, Sussex Sharks, Warwickshire Bears, Worcestershire Royals.

Hampshire’s first home Pro40 match is against the Sussex Sharks on Sunday 29th July.  Match starts at 1:45pm.
