Kevin Pietersen
Arguably England’s best batsman of the modern era and one of the finest talents on the planet, but that success for his country has meant his appearances for Hampshire have been limited. Pietersen joined the County for the 2005 season, just as he burst onto the international stage with England. His early criticism of the quota system in South Africa meant his call up was highly controversial, but after some stunning performances, particularly against South Africa, saw the critics firmly hushed. An Achilles injury in 2009 meant Pietersen was unable to join his teammates at Lord’s for their FTP Trophy win, and more international commitments mean his involvement this coming season is sure to be restricted again.
